In this short interview I chat with Thrive Method alumni Lynne about her experience in the program. You can read the transcript below or watch the video above.
Tessa:
Thank you so much, Lynn, for having a chat with me. We’ve been in Thrive Method for the last, I think this week is your 17th week. And it’s been a pleasure working with you. I’ve really enjoyed it. So thanks for taking the time out to speak to me. I really appreciate it. Sorry, my screen’s just gone a bit funny. Okay, so tell me, where were you at health wise before you started the Thrive Method?
Lynne:
So I’d been really struggling with weight gain and joint pain, I suppose, were the main two things. And my allergies, hay fever, things like that. I wasn’t really in a good place with bloating, migraines, you name it. I think I pretty much had it. And yeah, just the struggle, day to day struggle of just functioning. Yeah.
Tessa:
It’s amazing how many different systems can have problems with Hashimoto’s, right? It can be so widespread. There’s spot fires everywhere, tonnes of different symptoms going on. So what tangible improvements have you had now since completing the program?
Lynne:
The biggest is the weight loss, which has been huge and really just so easy. I mean, I just eat and eat, but it’s just a different way of eating and the foods are all great. But the weight’s just fallen off in huge amounts, especially at the beginning, which was really surprising. And just the energy levels that I have now is great. Getting through the afternoon without having a sleep. Yeah, been able to, with my job, just keep driving if I’ve got to. And then not crashing all weekend because I’m so tired, I can get out and do things, which is great.
Tessa:
Yeah, that’s wonderful. It makes such a difference.
Lynne:
It does.
Tessa:
You get a special reward because… Or award, I should say, because I think after you… I think you’re the person who’s lost the most weight in the program at nearly 18 kilos. I think the next person after you was about 15 kilos. So well done.
Lynne:
Thank you.
Tessa:
It’s a record for us both in four months.
Lynne:
Because I set the first goal and then you wanted me to set a little bit more and I said, well, that’s a bit skinny and it’s going to be a bit hard because I thought the 15 kilos was going to be really hard, but it wasn’t. I mean, I guarantee that… so not guarantee, but I know that I had some ups and then downs because I was away on holidays and things like that. So it just wasn’t all weight loss. There was a few weight gains and then back on the program and back down again.
Tessa:
Yeah, absolutely. Because we’re working on trying to get the waist measurement in particular, weren’t we? Yeah. That’s right. Yeah. So you went away on holidays and you were able to enjoy other foods and things while you’re on the program too?
Lynne:
Yes. Yeah.
Tessa:
That’s great.
Lynne:
Some holidays I’ve been able to take short ones, take my own food and work that way with the program and other ones I’ve just gone, Well, you know what? I’m on holiday.
Tessa:
Absolutely. Yeah, that’s awesome. I guess it’s been such a pleasure working with you because you’re so committed. You just got on with it and kept going throughout the four months. Obviously, you’ve got the reward for all that hard work, but I’m glad that you were able to go away and enjoy those things as well.
Lynne:
Yeah, and I’m quite proud of myself because I think if I’d done any other of the weight loss programs that I was looking into, I knew in my heart, they weren’t right and they weren’t for me. And this has just been just perfect. I’m just so pleased for the recommendation from our mutual friend. It’s been awesome.
Tessa:
I think there’s a big focus on really relearning how to eat for your future in the Thrive method and with a metabolic balance food plan as well so it’s really deconstructing how you’ve viewed food in the past and building it back up again.
Lynne:
Yes. I mean, you certainly do eat a lot of variety of food. Okay, so maybe in the first months, you think, Oh, my God, is this all I can have? But there’s still a lot of variety there, and it’s getting your head around it, not overthinking, doing your prep and just being ahead of the game a little bit so that you just can… If you’re tired, you can reach in the fridge, and you’ve got a meal for today and maybe tomorrow. I prep while I’m making the tea. I’ll do salads pretty quick. That covers me for two days. It’s good.
Tessa:
That’s awesome. Have you had any surprising or unexpected benefits through the program? That you didn’t think were going to happen?
Lynne:
Well, I’m surprised at the… Well, my joint pain, I was surprised that went because I was looking at… I mean, I’ve had joint pain in the past, and that’s taken years to get rid of through physios and other things. I was looking at a specialist, especially for the pain in my feet. I’m so pleased I didn’t go down that road or have to go down that road. But I think really just all my, what do you call the results? And the shrinkage of my thyroid nodules and things, that’s amazing.
Tessa:
Your pathology has really improved. It’s quite remarkable.
Lynne:
Yeah. And I think also the… What’s that? The T3?
Tessa:
No, your TSH.
Lynne:
TSH. I know I’m on medication, but I have not had that level since probably 20 years, maybe. So that is just awesome.
Tessa:
Should be really proud of yourself. Your thyroid is loving how you’re currently eating. It’s obviously working really well. And your liver as well. That’s improved incredibly. There’s so many improvements in those markets, so that’s really exciting.
Lynne:
And when I say…
Lynne:
Well, the other dogs are in trouble. When I say that… I lost my train of thought.
Tessa:
That’s okay. It might come back to you. I’ll ask my last question. What are you able to do now that you couldn’t before the Thrive Method?
Lynne:
Stay awake all day.
Lynne:
I can stay awake. I’ve got the energy to keep… I mean, you know that I’m quite physical with what I do and how much I walk. So I’m able to get back and I can do those things. And just having all that extra energy to join in our very physical family activities that I can keep doing that hopefully for the next, I don’t know, 20 years.
Tessa:
Yeah, that’s right. Absolutely. You’ve done incredibly well. I think a lot of your great lifestyle habits have really… I was saying this earlier that you’ve created this beautiful scaffolding. You’ve got this great life, social, hobbies, movement, and it’s really meant that changing your food and changing your food philosophy, it’s just worked so well together, hasn’t it? It’s been a really good combination. It’s just supported your goals so well so well done, that’s awesome.
Lynne:
It has. And to have the ability to work all day and then still go out to dance at night and then just keep working. And then I’ve got dance in the weekend and I’ll have something else. If I want to go and do a beachwalk, whatever it is, 4kms, 10kms, I can just rock that out in the weekend again.
Tessa:
And wear your pretty dresses again too.
Lynne:
I can wear my pretty dresses, which is awesome. With upcoming trips, I’ve all bought new swimwear. It’s just fantastic. I’m so pleased. I’m so pleased and thank you. Your support, too, has been awesome. You’re there every week. It’s great. Thank you.
